City Government
Caney voters have amended the Charter several
times to keep City government in step with
changing times.
A Local Charter established the Council-Manager
form of government. In this form of City
government, an elected Mayor and City Council set
policy and conduct City business. The
Council appoints a professional City Manager to
carry out the day-to-day operations of
City government.

City Council Meetings
The Council meets on the 3rd Monday at 7:00 p.m.
at the Board of Education office. Council
meetings are televised on Cox Cable Channel 21.
The Council agenda should be posted 48 hours
before each meeting. Agendas are available from
the City Clerk's Office or on the City's Web site, www.caney.com

The Mayor and Council
The City Council, the legislative branch of City
government, sets policy, enacts ordinances and
authorizes all expenditures of City funds.
The Mayor is elected by all Caney voters. The
Mayor has the deciding vote in the case of a tie
on all City Council business and presides over
City Council meetings. The Mayor also makes
appointments to City boards, commissions, trusts, and committees.
Caney is divided into Four Wards. Each Ward is
represented by the Council member elected by
the voters who live in that Ward.
The Mayor and Council serve overlapping four-year
terms.
